This creamy, flavorful Beer Cheese Fondue is perfect for gatherings or cozy nights in. Made with a blend of sharp cheeses and your favorite beer, it’s a crowd-pleasing dip that pairs perfectly with crusty bread, vegetables, and pretzels.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup beer (lager or ale works best)
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 clove garlic, halved
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the pot: Rub the inside of a fondue pot or medium saucepan with the cut sides of the garlic clove. Discard the garlic or leave it for additional flavor.
  • Heat the beer: Pour the beer into the pot and heat over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Do not let it boil.
  • Mix the cheese: Toss the shredded cheeses with the flour in a bowl.
  • Melt the cheese: Gradually add the cheese mixture to the pot, one handful at a time, stirring constantly until melted and smooth.
  • Add seasonings: Stir in Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and smoked paprika. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve: Keep the fondue warm over low heat and serve immediately with dippers like bread cubes, vegetables, or pretzels.

Notes

  • Use a beer with flavors you enjoy, as it will impact the fondue’s taste. A mild lager is a safe choice for balance, while ales or stouts add more depth.
  • If the fondue is too thick, thin it with a splash of beer or milk.
  • For a kid-friendly version, replace beer with chicken or vegetable broth.
