Dried orange slices are the perfect versatile snack or decoration. They’re tangy, sweet, and fragrant, making them ideal for garnishing cocktails, baking, crafting, or even as healthy snacks. This simple method ensures even drying and beautiful results every time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium oranges (navel or blood oranges work well)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). If using a dehydrator, set it to 135°F (57°C).
  2. Prepare the Oranges: Wash the oranges thoroughly. Using a sharp knife or mandoline, slice the oranges into thin, even slices about 1/8 inch thick. Discard the ends.
  3. Dry the Slices:
    • In the Oven: Arrange the slices in a single layer on a wire rack placed over a baking sheet to allow air circulation. Bake for 2-3 hours, flipping them halfway through.
    • In a Dehydrator: Arrange the slices on the trays without overlapping and dry for 6-8 hours.
  4. Check for Doneness: The orange slices should be dry to the touch but still slightly pliable, not sticky. If they’re not fully dry, leave them in the oven or dehydrator a bit longer.
  5. Cool and Store: Let the slices cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Optional Enhancements: Sprinkle with sugar or cinnamon before drying for extra flavor.
  • For Decorations: If using for crafting, you can add a touch of glitter or coat them with clear varnish after drying.
