Christmas Crack is a sweet and salty holiday treat that’s incredibly easy to make! Made with crispy crackers, caramel, and chocolate, this festive snack is irresistibly crunchy and perfect for sharing with family and friends. Customize it with your favorite toppings like nuts, sprinkles, or crushed candy canes for a personal touch.

  • 40 saltine crackers (enough to cover a baking sheet)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional toppings:
    • 1/4 cup crushed candy canes
    • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (e.g., pecans or almonds)
    • Holiday sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil, and spray it lightly with cooking spray. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire sheet.
  • Make the Caramel: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir until combined. Bring the mixture to a boil and let it cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring constantly, until it thickens slightly.
  • Spread the Caramel: Carefully pour the hot caramel mixture over the crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  • Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5 minutes. The caramel should be bubbly.
  • Add the Chocolate: Remove the sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot caramel. Let sit for 2–3 minutes to allow the chocolate to melt, then spread it evenly with a spatula.
  • Decorate and Cool: Add your favorite toppings while the chocolate is still warm. Let the Christmas Crack cool completely at room temperature or place it in the refrigerator for 1–2 hours to set.
  • Break Into Pieces: Once hardened, break the Christmas Crack into bite-sized pieces and enjoy!
