Here’s a homemade version of McDonald’s Steak, Egg, and Cheese Bagel—a hearty breakfast sandwich featuring tender steak, fluffy eggs, melted cheese, and a flavorful sauce, all nestled between toasted bagel halves.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Bagels:
    • 2 plain bagels, halved and toasted
  • Steak and Onions:
    • ½ pound shaved steak or thinly sliced sirloin
    • ½ onion, thinly sliced
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
    • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
    • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Eggs:
    • 4 large eggs
    • 2 tablespoons milk (optional, for fluffier eggs)
    • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
    • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Cheese:
    • 4 slices American cheese
  • Breakfast Sauce:
    • ¼ cup mayonnaise
    • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
    • ½ teaspoon dried dill weed
    • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
    • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Breakfast Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, yellow mustard, dried dill weed, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to use.
  • Sauté the Onions:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Sauté until onions are translucent and lightly browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  • Cook the Steak:
    • In the same skillet, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat. Add the shaved steak, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until the steak is browned and cooked through, about 2-3 minutes. Return the sautéed onions to the skillet, mix with the steak, and remove from heat.
  • Scramble the Eggs:
    • In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk (if using), salt, and pepper. In a non-stick pan over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Pour in the egg mixture and cook, stirring gently, until just set and fluffy. Divide into four portions.
  • Assemble the Sandwiches:
    • Spread a generous amount of the breakfast sauce on each half of the toasted bagels.
    • On the bottom half of each bagel, layer the steak and onion mixture, a portion of scrambled eggs, and top with a slice of American cheese.
    • Place the top half of the bagel over the fillings to complete the sandwich.
  • Serve:
    • Serve the sandwiches warm. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider toasting the bagels with a bit of butter in a skillet until golden brown.
  • Customize the sandwich by adding sautéed mushrooms or using a different type of cheese, such as cheddar or provolone.
  • If you prefer, you can use a different cut of beef, such as ribeye or sirloin, thinly sliced.
