Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. In another bowl, combine the egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until a smooth batter forms.
  2. Heat the Oil: Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep pan or pot to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Pipe the Batter: Transfer the batter to a piping bag fitted with a large round tip or a resealable plastic bag with the corner snipped.
  4. Fry the Sticks: Pipe 3-4 inch strips of batter directly into the hot oil. Fry in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy (about 2-3 minutes per batch).
  5. Drain and Dust: Remove the sticks with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Dust generously with powdered sugar.
  6. Serve: Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces like chocolate, caramel, or fruit preserves.
