This easy authentic Italian tiramisu recipe is a classic no-bake dessert that layers rich mascarpone cream with espresso-soaked ladyfingers. It’s a timeless favorite for any occasion, balancing coffee and creamy flavors perfectly with a dusting of cocoa powder for the ultimate indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 16 oz (2 cups) mascarpone cheese, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream, cold
  • 2 cups brewed espresso, cooled
  • 2 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 1 package (7 oz) ladyfinger cookies
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy, about 3–5 minutes.
  2. Add the mascarpone cheese and beat until smooth. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream to stiff peaks using a hand mixer or stand mixer. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until combined.
  4. Combine the brewed espresso and coffee liqueur (if using) in a shallow dish. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the mixture, ensuring they’re soaked but not soggy.
  5. Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers at the bottom of a rectangular dish (approximately 9×13 inches).
  6. Spread half of the mascarpone cream over the ladyfingers in an even layer.
  7. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone cream.
  8. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for the flavors to meld.
  9. Just before serving, sift a generous layer of cocoa powder over the top.

Notes

  • For a stronger coffee flavor, use dark roast espresso.
  • Substitute coffee liqueur with rum or omit for a non-alcoholic version.
  • Serve chilled for the best texture.
