Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 12-cup muffin tin or line with paper liners.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and garlic powder (if using).
  4. In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, and melted butter until well combined.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the cooked sausage and shredded cheese.
  7. Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling each about 3/4 full.
  8. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the muffins are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the muffins to cool slightly before removing them from the tin. Serve warm or store in an airtight container for later.
