Ingredients

Scale

For the Cod:

  • 4 cod fillets (about 6 oz each)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Glaze:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (slurry)

Garnish:

  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • Sesame seeds, for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cod:
    • Pat the cod fillets dry with a paper towel and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Cook the Cod:
    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
    • Add the cod fillets and cook for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the Glaze:
    • In the same skillet, add soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
    • Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
    • Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Combine and Serve:
    • Return the cod fillets to the skillet, spooning the glaze over the fish to coat evenly.
    • Cook for another 1–2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  5. Garnish and Enjoy:
    • Sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
    • Serve hot over steamed rice or with a side of sautéed vegetables.

Notes

  • You can substitute cod with other white fish like halibut or tilapia.
  • Adjust the honey for more or less sweetness.
  • Add more red pepper flakes for a spicier kick.
