Ingredients
Scale
12 Hawaiian sweet rolls (e.g., King’s Hawaiian)
3 large eggs
3/4 cup whole milk
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for cooking)
Optional toppings: powdered sugar, maple syrup, fresh berries
Instructions
Prepare the Rolls:
Slice each Hawaiian roll in half horizontally to create two pieces per roll.
Make the Custard Mixture:
In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
Preheat the Skillet:
Heat a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a small amount of butter to coat the surface.
Dip the Rolls:
Working in batches, dip each roll half into the custard mixture, ensuring both sides are coated. Allow any excess to drip off.
Cook the French Toast:
Place the dipped rolls onto the preheated skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
Add more butter to the skillet as needed for subsequent batches.
Serve:
Transfer the cooked French toast to serving plates.
Top with powdered sugar, maple syrup, and fresh berries if desired.
Notes
Avoid Over-Soaking:Â Dip the rolls briefly in the custard to prevent them from becoming too soggy.
Keep Warm: If preparing in batches, keep the cooked French toast warm in a 200°F (93°C) oven until ready to serve.
Variations:Â Consider stuffing the rolls with cream cheese and jam for added flavor.
