Mississippi Sin Dip is a warm, creamy appetizer that’s perfect for gatherings. It’s a delightful blend of cheeses, ham, and seasonings, traditionally baked inside a hollowed-out loaf of bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8-ounce) block cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup cooked ham, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 round loaf of bread (e.g., sourdough or French bread)
  • 1/4 cup green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the Bread Bowl:
    • Slice off the top of the bread loaf and hollow out the center, leaving about a 1-inch thick shell.
    • Keep the removed bread pieces for serving.
  3. Mix the Dip:
    • In a bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
    • Add sour cream and mix until creamy.
    • Stir in cheddar cheese, chopped ham, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  4. Assemble:
    • Spoon the cheese mixture into the prepared bread bowl.
    • Place the filled loaf on a baking sheet and wrap it with aluminum foil.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake for 25 minutes.
    • Unwrap the foil and bake for an additional 5–10 minutes until the dip is hot and bubbly.
  6. Serve:
    • Garnish with sliced green onions.
    • Serve warm with the reserved bread pieces, crackers, or fresh vegetables for dipping.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, consider adding diced jalapeños or increasing the amount of hot sauce.
  • Freshly shredded cheese melts better than pre-shredded varieties.
  • If you prefer, you can bake the dip in a baking dish instead of a bread bowl.
