Peppermint Oreo Truffles are a delightful no-bake treat that combines the rich flavor of Oreo cookies with a refreshing peppermint twist, all encased in a smooth chocolate coating. They’re perfect for holiday gatherings or as a festive homemade gift.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 36 Oreo cookies (regular, not Double Stuf)
  • 8 ounces (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 16 ounces (450g) chocolate (white, milk, or dark, depending on preference)
  • Crushed candy canes or peppermint candies, for garnish

Instructions

  • Prepare the Oreo Mixture:
    • Place the Oreo cookies in a food processor and pulse until they become fine crumbs.
    • Add the softened cream cheese and peppermint extract to the processor. Blend until the mixture is well combined and smooth, forming a dough-like consistency.
  • Form the Truffles:
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • Using a small cookie scoop or tablespoon, portion out the mixture and roll into 1-inch (2.5 cm) balls.
    • Place the balls on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Chill:
    • Transfer the baking sheet to the freezer and chill the truffles for about 30 minutes. This firms them up, making them easier to dip in chocolate.
  • Coat with Chocolate:
    • Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl, heating in 30-second intervals and stirring between each until fully melted and smooth.
    • Using a fork or dipping tool, dip each chilled truffle into the melted chocolate, ensuring it’s fully coated.
    • Allow any excess chocolate to drip off before placing the truffle back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Garnish:
    • While the chocolate coating is still wet, sprinkle the tops with crushed candy canes or peppermint candies for a festive touch.
  • Set and Serve:
    • Let the truffles sit at room temperature until the chocolate hardens, or place them in the refrigerator to speed up the process.
    • Once set, transfer the truffles to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Notes

  • For a different flavor profile, consider using mint-flavored Oreo cookies or adding a bit of espresso powder to enhance the chocolate taste.
  • These truffles can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, making them convenient for holiday planning.
